Presencia del culto jacobeo en el género de la nouvelle francesa (siglos XVI-XVIII)

Abstract

Dans cet article on veut montrer l’importance et la signification de l’univers du culte de saint Jacques dans le genre narratif de la nouvelle française, tout au long de la période située entre le début du XVIe siècle et la fin du XVIIIe siècle. Même si sa présence n’est pas très remarquable du point de vue quantitatif, son intérêt comme thème n’est pas à dédaigner. Il y a des nouvelles qui incluent des passages en rapport avec cet univers dans lesquels on trouve de bons témoignages sur divers aspects du voyage à Compostelle, sur l’importance qu’on lui a accordé en France et aussi sur l’evolution historique de ce pays à l’epoque signalée. Plusieurs de ces passages exercent aussi une fonction purement littéraire (narrative ou descriptive).

This article attempts to show the relevance and significance of the Jacobean universe in the narrative genre of the French nouvelle within the period that spans from the beginning of the 16th century to the end of the 18th century. Although the presence of the Jacobean issue is far from overwhelming, its thematic interest cannot be neglected. There are nouvelles which include passages related to the Jacobean pilgrimage which offer valuable testimony on the journey to Compostela and on the importance that France attached to this pilgrimage. Thus, a historical reading is possible, allowing the critic a diachronic understanding of this phenomenon. Some of these passages have, additionally, a literary function (narrative or descriptive).
