Posicionamientos elitistas en los cuentos de Emilia Pardo Bazán: la relación amo-criado

Abstract

En este trabajo se analiza el tratamiento literario que Emilia Pardo Bazán ofrece en su narrativa breve de la figura de los criados. Figura encuadrada en una relación de servidumbre que entrará, a finales del xix, en profunda decadencia, golpeada por los nuevos aires de libertad difundidos por los movimientos liberales. Ello destapará una serie de conflictos en el seno del hogar burgués que atentan contra el mantenimiento del orden social tradicional, y ante los cuales la escritora gallega reaccionará haciéndose partícipe de un discurso elitista apoyado en los planteamientos del darwinismo social y las sociologías positivistas en boga.

This paper analyzes the literary treatment that Emilia Pardo Bazán offers in her short narrative of the figure of servants; figure framed in a relationship of servitude that will enter, at the end of the nineteenth century, in deep decline, hit by the new winds of freedom spread by the liberal movements. This will reveal a series of conflicts within the bourgeois domestic environment that threaten the maintenance of traditional social order, and to which the Galician writer will react by participating in an elitist discourse supported by the approaches of social Darwinism and positivist sociologies in vogue.
