Las políticas locales de protección y puesta en valor turístico-cultural del patrimonio arquitectónico en las ciudades de Quito, Cuenca y Guayaquil (Ecuador). Un análisis comparado

Abstract

La presente tesis doctoral busca realizar un análisis sobre las políticas de protección y valorización turístico-cultural del patrimonio arquitectónico de las tres ciudades más importantes del Ecuador, tanto por índices económicos como demográficos: Quito, Cuenca y Guayaquil, recalcando la importancia cultural de las dos primeras, ya que fueron declaradas Patrimonio Cultural de la Humanidad por la UNESCO en 1978 y 1999, respectivamente. Por su parte, en el caso de Guayaquil, si bien es cierto que no tiene un reconocimiento importante relacionado con el turismo o el patrimonio cultural -salvo ciertos proyectos y actividades relativamente esporádicas- al menos presenta elementos de interés en su patrimonio arquitectónico que merecen ser evaluados y valorizados. Este análisis se basa en las características existentes en las tres ciudades sobre el cuidado que tienen sus centros históricos con relación a su patrimonio edificado. La tesis se desarrolla en cinco capítulos, cada uno de los cuáles busca correspondencia en contextos teóricos, legales, sociales y turísticos para identificar la importancia del patrimonio arquitectónico en cada ciudad, tomando también en consideración la opinión de los habitantes locales quienes, al fin y al cabo, son los llamados a comprender, identificar y defender sus edificios patrimoniales y sus centros históricos, como lugares vivos y referentes de la historia de cada lugar estudiado.

This doctoral thesis carry out an analysis of the policies of protection and cultural-tourist valorization of the architectural heritage of the three most important cities in Ecuador, both by economic and demographic indices: Quito, Cuenca and Guayaquil, emphasizing the cultural importance of the two first, since they were declared Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO in 1978 and 1999, respectively. For its part, in the case of Guayaquil, although it is true that it does not have important recognition related to tourism or cultural heritage - except for certain relatively sporadic projects and activities - it at least presents elements of interest in its architectural heritage that deserve to be evaluated and valued. This analysis is based on the existing characteristics in the three cities regarding the care that their historic centers have in relation to their built heritage. The thesis is developed in five chapters, each of which seeks correspondence in theoretical, legal, social and tourist contexts to identify the importance of architectural heritage in each city, also taking into consideration the opinion of local inhabitants who, ultimately After all, they are called to understand, identify and defend their heritage buildings and their historic centers, as living places and references of the history of each place studied.
