Reservas nutricionales e inicio de la puesta en Apis mellifera iberica

Abstract

We have studied correlations between pollen and honey stocks and brood rearing at the end of the winter time (late february) in Apis mellifera iberica colonies. Number of cells with honey stored before the spring nectar flow is not linked with the amounts of brood in the first generation of new insects, at the begining of this period, while pollen reserve stocks appears like the true limiting factor, significantly correlated (r= 0.955) with brood production, regulating the early growth of the colony. It"s discussed the advantages of pollen substitutes instead of sugar syrup in the early spring artificial feeding.

Se han estudiado las correlaciones existentes entre las reservas de polen y miel al final de la invernada (finales de febrero) y el volumen de cría en Apis mellifera iberica durante este periodo. La cantidad de reservas melíferas acumuladas con anterioridad a la mielada no condiciona significativamente los efectivos de la primera generación de nuevos insectos durante este periodo, mientras que las reservas de polen sí actúan en este sentido (r = 0.955) como factor limitante, regulando el temprano crecimiento de la colonia. Se discute la posibilidad de utilizar sustitutivos del polen en la alimentación artificial realzada a comienzo de la primavera en lugar de jarabes azucarados.
