dc.description.abstract | Four diets were formulated by substituting barley for 0, 0.10, 0.30 and 0.50 of wheat grain. The resulting diets (T, Tr10, Tr30 and Tr50) contained 3.48 (T) 3.55 (TRIO) 3.65 (TR30) and 3.83 (TR50) Mcal digestible energy (DE) and similar amounts of crude fibre (around 6%). Thirty six entire (Belgium Landrace) x (Large White x Danish Landrace,) male pigs, initially weighting 25, kg were distributed into 12 homogeneous replicates of 3 pigs each and fed (ad libitum) until reaching 90 kg live weight. In order to evindentiate any effect upon protein addecuacy, crude protein (CP) was deliberatelly formulated to be low (13.7 ; 13.9 ; 14.3 and 14.7 g 100g-1) for this type of pig, but the protein to energy (P:E) ratio was similar (39 g x Mcal DE-1) in all diets. Voluntary feed intake (6.78 ; 6.18 ; 6.14 and 5.95 kg x d-1) disminished as wheat content increased (P < 0.05) but the daily liveweight gain (895, 825, 854 and 886 g d1) did not changed. Differences in dorsal fat (14.8 ; 11.2 16.5 & 16.1 mm) were not significant.
| es_ES |
