Entre Moorea y Bellamora: melancolía, crítica y reivindicación. Estudio de los personajes de Aphra Behn

Abstract

Este trabajo presenta varias calas en los personajes creados por Aphra Behn en dos de sus relatos. The Unfortunate Bride; or, The Blind Lady A Beauty se estudia desde la perspectiva de algunos de sus personajes para mostrar cómo la autora genera unos caracteres paradigmáticos de la teoría de los humores, concretamente a través del caso de Moorea. En segundo lugar, se aborda The Adventure of the Black Lady con el objetivo principal de plasmar la creación de los personajes dedicando una atención especial a Bellamora. Asimismo, se nombran otros perfiles caraterológicos que responden a la teoría de los humores la cual es acrisolada en la tradición inglesa previamente gracias a dramaturgos como Ben Jonson o George Chapman.

This paper aims to present a thorough, albeit condensed, analysis of the characters Aphra Behn created along two short stories. The Unfortunate Bride; or, The Blind Lady A Beauty is studied from the characters perspective in order to corroborate how the author creates some paradigmatic characters following the theory of humours, particularly by means of Moorea. Secondly, The Adventure of the Black Lady is scrutinized to approach the making of the characters in order to highlight the salient features characterizing Bellamora. Finally, we intend to illustrate the achievement in other characters in relation to humorism, what is noticeably confirmed in early Seventeenth-Century English Literature by other writers such as Ben Jonson or George Chapman.
