Quissange, Saüdade Nêgra y los límites de la literatura colonial en los orígenes de la lírica angoleña

Abstract

Tomaz Vieira da Cruz, poeta portugués que transcurrió en Angola el período comprendido entre 1924 y 1949, publicó su primer poemario, Quissange, Saüdade Nêgra, en 1932. Tanto la obra como el autor han sido escasamente estudiados por la crítica, a pesar de lo cual han sido incluidos sistemáticamente en la categoría de «literatura colonial». En este estudio analizamos la plasmación de diversos elementos significativos de la sociedad angoleña en la obra de Vieira da Cruz con la intención de comprobar hasta qué punto la adscripción del autor y de su ópera prima a la categoría colonial están justificadas.

Tomaz Vieira da Cruz, a Portuguese poet who lived in Angola between 1924 and 1949, published his first collection of poems, Quissange, Saüdade Nêgra, in 1932. Both the book and the author have been poorly studied, despite what they have been systematically included in the category of «colonial literature». In this study I aim to analyze the depiction of different significant elements of Angolan society in Vieira da Cruz’s work in order to prove to what extent the ascription of the author and his first work to the colonial category are justified.
