En torno a una iluminación de un manuscrito coptoárabe del s. XIII

Abstract

La copia conocida como Vat. copt. 9 (s. XIII) representa una muestra manuscrita de gran valor debido a las miniaturas que, en la línea de la técnica 'bizantina media' en ocasiones enriquecida con motivos iranios-islamizantes, incorpora junto con las también valiosas versiones capta y árabe en ella contenidas. En el presente trabajo nos ocupamos del frontispicio del Evangelio de Marcos, intentando demostrar que la representación allí realizada del evangelista recibiendo el libro de manos del arcángel san Miguel muestra evidentes conexiones con las técnicas iluministas carolingias.

The copy known as Vat. Copt. 9 (13th c.) is a highly appreciated sample of manuscript because of the miniatures which are included of the same style as `Middle Byzantine' technique, at places enriched by Iranian-lslamic motifs, together with the valuable Coptic and Arabic versions also found there. In Chis paper our purpose is to focas en the frontispice of Mark's Gospel and to argue that the representation of the Evangelist taking the book from the hands of the Archangel Saint Michael shows clear connections with the iluministic techniques used by Carolingian masters.
