José María Blanco White: traductor de poesía inglesa

Abstract

Este trabajo indaga la labor traductora de José María Blanco White y se centra en las traducciones de poesía inglesa. Se abordan los diversos fragmentos o poemas que el autor traduce a la vez que se analizan ciertas mutaciones pergeñadas en la aclimatación del verso foráneo al español. Se estudian diversos especímenes y se comparan, de modo selectivo, algunos planos de la realización lingüística, profundizando en el componente semántico de las traducciones. Además, se alude a su escritura directamente en inglés y no se desdeña su traducción en prosa.

This article considers the translation work of José María Blanco White and takes as its central subject Blanco White‟s translations of English poetry. Several fragments and poems translated by the poet are examined and the article analyses certain transformations produced during the process of translation from the English verse into Spanish. Several examples are studied, and their levels of linguistic execution compared. The work goes on to analyse more deeply the semantic components of these translations. In addition to this poetic translation work, Blanco White‟s own writings in English are referred to, as well as his prose translations.
