dc.description.abstract | In this article the intercultural question will be studied from the space- time - angle. We start from an intercultural background defining culture, in a simplified form, as an inventory of socio-psychological schemes, which can be enlarged to an imagery. Intercultural research can be refined by the field of imagology, studying different images. E.T. Hall´s distinction of monochronic and polychronic is refined by Polly Platt, who calls the French quarkochronic. The monochronic type, keen on punctuality and correctness, works linearly. The polychronic type on the contrary enjoys life without being critical about regularity. Different tasks can be done simultaneously. The French can either lean to the monochronic or polychronic position, depending on circumstances. These results in mind, our focus will be on the way the sapce- time- aspect is fictionalized. For this purpose, some famous literary characters taken from German, French and English-speaking literature will be evaluated according to their monochronic, quarkochronic and polychronic nature. Monochronic/quarkochronic and polychronic aspects can determine the basic tenor of a literary work, where Paris functions undoubtedly as the imagological hub. Intercultural lattices occur throughout the centuries- Phileas Fogg epitimizes at its best the monochronic type and the English gentleman. The space-time- dimension is also present in daily situations like the traffic lights. | es_ES |
| es_ES |
