El Brexit: una aproximación a su terminología en la prensa alemana y española

Abstract

En la actualidad, la salida del Reino Unido de la Unión Europea conocida como “brexit” es una cuestión que ha sembrado la incertidumbre en las relaciones internacionales en su conjunto. Esta ruptura conlleva una serie de negociaciones entre dicho Estado miembro y la Unión Europea que podría desembocar en un proceso de salida “duro”, es decir, sin acuerdo, lo que perjudicaría negativamente las relaciones entre ambos. Este acontecimiento histórico ha hecho que surgan nuevos términos, generalmente anglicismos, que han pasado a formar parte del día a día del ciudadano europeo. El presente estudio pretende realizar un estudio teórico y práctico sobre el tratamiento de la terminología empleada por la prensa alemana y española en este contexto. Con ello, se recogen textos de Die Zeit y El Períodico sobre el Brexit, con el objeto de analizar terminológicamente este término, así como aquellos juegos de palabras y construcciones entorno a él. Finalmente se expone una serie de reflexiones traductológicas y terminológicas sobre el empleo de este término por parte de los medios de comunicación.

Nowadays, the departure of the United Kingdom from the European Union known as "Brexit" is an issue that has sown uncertainty in international relations as a whole. This rupture entails a series of negotiations between said Member State and the European Union that could lead to a “hard” exit process, that is, a no-deal exit or an exit without an agreement, which would negatively damage relations between the two. This historical event has led to the emergence of new terms, generally Anglicisms, which have become part of the daily life of the European citizen. The present article aims to develop a theoretical and practical study on the treatment of the terminology used by the German and Spanish press in this context. Therefore, texts from Die Zeit and El Períodico on Brexit are collected, in order to analyze this term terminologically, as well as those word games and constructions around it. Finally, a series of translation and terminological reflections on the use of this term by the media are exposed.
